About

17 Dec 2018
Life

A good portion of yesterday was with me and the kids over at my fathers. My Uncle is out from back-East, so my brothers and I were over and we spent the afternoon playing board games. It was a relaxed day.

Spent today doing yard-work, cooking, and cleaning. Having a checklist helps make everything flow smoother for productivity. Think I need to trim the beard, as right now I only need a toque and a flannel shirt to become a lumberjack, maybe suspenders too.

Work

Quickly went into work yesterday, kinda numb, as everything happened very quickly. Work festivities are canceled this year, will see about salvaging the holidays and Christmas, thats a next week problem.
Holiday was going to start end of this week, have put in to have remainder of week off.
Everything seems rather surreal. Lots of meetings, and driving, getting everything setup and paperwork dealt with.
Not what I was expecting for end of year this year.

In the Snow

Went up Grouse Mountain today for an MFRC Christmas event. We lucked out as it was cold enough for there to be a layer of snow and for the skating rink to be frozen. Event was fun.

Day After

The Remembrance day gun salute went without any major issues. Funnily enough as part of the command group, we were in line with the television stations, so they had video of the guns in front and of the parade in behind.

Sleep

Had a working weekend. Kids are in school, hopefully now a sleeping day.

Giving Thanks

I'll be eating turkey for the next week. Family, save a few, were over yesterday for Thanksgiving dinner. It was a good day.

New Job

After almost 15 years of working as a Quartermaster in charge of Stores, I've decided to take a promotion and move into a higher level position. Started earlier this week and my stress levels are fairly high, as I'm still not sure what exactly I should be doing.

Rev. Canon Margaret

Just found out my Great Aunt Margaret died. This was a surprise. She was a fixture that always seemed to be around, and was quite the juxtaposition against my grandparents. Due to distances of living half a country away, we did not meet frequently, which was unfortunate. Funnily enough my brothers and I were going over family history last weekend and she was brought up.

Windows 10

Made the upgrade. Kids are happy. Will take a while to reinstall everything. Plus side is the operating system is on a SSD instead of an HDD.

7 Sept 2018
Rain

Finally getting some rain. Real rain, and not just a few drops. Smoke from the various wildfires has been unkind the last few weeks. Hopefully this will reduce the fire hazard, and assist with putting out the forest fires.

Courses

Just back today from two weeks learning how to do light urban search and rescue. Quite a bit to learn, and did a fair amount of practical training. Although within the limited time-frame, it was quite introductory.

Heat

Apparently we're breaking all heat records right now, thermostat outside doesn't go many more degrees. The AC units are keeping the house just at a tolerable level. Pretty sure my co-workers at work, are happy that before I went away to teach, that I had most of the AC units upgraded to a larger size and regulated refrigerant. Taking a required weeks worth of vacation, as accruing too many.

Water

Was away for the last month and a bit, teaching a course. Funnily enough the students had air conditioning in their dorm, and the residence for instructors didn't. It was rather warm, and the water was rather hard. Quite happy to be home and being able to drink fresh tap water.

Belated New Year

Many I think I should's, however, nothing yielded action, so, now it's a happy New Year.
The last month has gone in a flash, with work never ending, and chores in and around the house also never ending. Kids received a Nintendo Switch for Christmas, so thats eating some time as well.
Going to get myself DNA tested with the FamilyFinder through FamilyTreeDNA. Have done many others, hoping with another data point it will help narrow down the estimated distances, which will likely still be the standard just out of reach. Unfortunately most people I would like to compare against are likely on Ancestry, and have not ported data over to GedMatch.
